According to June 2011 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report, the Asia/Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 1,240 hotels totalling 307,346 rooms. Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upper Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 26.6 per cent and 81,611 rooms. Three other segments each accounted for more than 15 per cent of rooms: the Upscale segment (23 per cent with 70,748 rooms); the Luxury segment (18.1 per cent with 55,551 rooms); and the Unaffiliated segment (16.9 per cent with 51,793 rooms). The Economy segment made up the smallest portion of rooms in the total active pipeline with 0.9 per cent and 2,911 rooms.
