MoT to shift headquarters at Mandir Marg; ropes in NDMC to construct Paryatan Bhavan

Thursday, January 8, 2015, 16:00 Hrs  [IST]

As per a TOI report by Risha Chitlangia, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), which operates from Transport Bhavan in New Delhi, will soon have its headquarters on Mandir Marg in the city. The MoT has roped in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to construct an office-cum-commercial complex—to be called Paryatan Bhavan—near Birla Mandir, spread over an area of nine acres. The civic agency is now in the process of appointing a consultant for the project.

The plan also includes constructing a four-storey building with two or three basement floors for parking. Officials said proximity to Birla Mandir, a tourist destination, makes parking in the area difficult. "We have been looking for a site to construct a parking lot here for long. The project will address this problem," said a senior NDMC official.

The concept plans are ready and approved. Recently, the civic agency called for an expression of interest from consultants. "We will first appoint a consultant and then work out the revenue sharing with the Ministry. The Ministry has asked for space on two floors. The details will be worked out after the consultant is appointed," Jalaj Shrivastava, Chairperson, NDMC, said.

The Rs 150-crore project will have parking space for about 700 cars. As far as NDMC's plan for the complex is concerned, officials say it will be worked out after a feasibility study is conducted by the consultant. "We will work out the modalities depending on the costs involved. The parking lot will be managed by NDMC. When the basic plan is ready, the consultant will help us implement our plans for use of solar energy, fire safety, mechanised parking lots, etc," said an official. The civic agency is planning to construct the building as per green norms. (Source: TOI)
