Considering the “overwhelming support” it has received for the first Incredible India Tourism Investors’ Summit (IITIS) which concluded in Delhi last week, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India, has decided to make it an annual feature.  According to Vinod Zutshi , Secretary Tourism, Government of India, the second IITIS will be organised in 2017 September in the national capital.

Talking about the first ever summit, Zutshi said that the three-day event received 2,000 delegates, 250 investors from both within India and overseas.  MoUs worth Rs 15,000 cr for tourism projects in different states  was signed at the Summit.  He said that these are initial estimates and a clear picture of the volume of investments is getting compiled from different states participated in the forum. States like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Chattisgarh were able to sign MoUs during the summit, he said.  “MoUs for some big ticket projects were signed by Costa Cruises and Qatar Airways,” he informed.

Zutshi said that the states have been asked to organise similar investment summits to keep the engagement going with the private investors.  MoT will facilitate and do the necessary “hand-holding” for such summits, he added.
A task force comprising trade and industry associations will be constituted soon for continuous engagement with investors, he said.  States will be invited as special invitees into the forum, he added.

Talking about proposed India Global Tourism Mart (IGTM), Zutshi said that the government has decided to change the model, and it will now be organised in partnership with the trade associations and CII.  It will be held from February 1 – 4, 2017 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.  No external exhibition agency will be involved in the organisation of the mart. “FAITH will be the knowledge partner and CII will be the Industry partner,” he said.

He said that a special group will be set up to screen the hosted buyers for the travel mart.  The Global Travel Mart will also have a outbound element where countries from the SAARC, and ASEAN region will be invited to showcase their products, he added.

In order to make the first India Global Travel Mart an event to remember, Ministry also have plans to open it for public in the evenings with cultural shows on the lines of ‘Bharat Parv’.
