Hotel Ganga Sadan Haridwar - Experience solitude amidst old-world charm

Friday, January 13, 2017, 11:39 Hrs  [IST]

Getaways to destinations such as Haridwar can never be enough. The holy place evokes calmness and rejuvenates the mind, body and soul with its spiritual aura, the divine sight of Ganga Aarti at Har ki Pauri, numerous temples dotting the city and the mighty flowing Ganges through the city. Travellers can also look forward to the quaint look and feel, numerous interesting eateries spanning Bara Bazaar and umpteen activities to indulge in such as trekking, river-rafting, bungy jumping, bird-watching, yoga, meditation and wildlife safari at Rajaji National Park.

When I received an invite from Omega Hospitality Consultants (India) to attend a familiarisation tour to Hotel Ganga Sadan Haridwar, a boutique property on the banks of Ganges being managed by them, the first thought that came to my mind was – What new will I write about the city, been there, done that! But no, let me tell you that cities such as Haridwar and Rishikesh never fail to amaze you again and again! Being one of the oldest living cities, they always have a new story to tell with enchanting religious and cultural heritage.

Strategically located at a mere 15-minute drive from the Haridwar Railway Station, the bylanes of Niranjani Akhada Road takes you to the old world charm of Ganga Sadan placed opposite Chintamani Ashram, Shravan Nath Nagar in Mayapur. The neighbourhood of this experiential property is surrounded by the old havelis right on the banks of Ganges. It is a perfect hideout to let loose, introspect and revitalise one’s senses. As you enter the property from the huge antique door, the first thing that would strike you is the view of Ganges towards the lower ground floor. The sound of the flow of the river is enough to give you goose bumps.

Rated among the finest hotels in its category, Ganga Sadan is consistently applauded for its strategic location, impeccable hospitality and the unique selling proposition of a private bathing ghat on various social media platforms. The property features well-furnished 39 rooms, with 23 Ganga facing, 13 Deluxe non-Ganga facing, one Presidential Suite and one Ganga Suite on the river level with two interconnected rooms and one Family Room with private sit out. Some of the Ganga facing rooms have balcony to have uninterrupted view of the holy river. All rooms are equipped with required contemporary amenities with round the clock service and Wi-Fi.

The rooftop restaurant (100% vegetarian and liquor-free) with outdoor sitting space serves a wide variety of delicious Indian, Chinese and local cuisine. The staff is friendly and on their toes for swift service. The lounge on the lower ground floor has a wide collection of indoor games to choose from and a well-stocked library for book lovers. Some of us in the group played Ludo, sipping ginger tea at the lounge and had the best of time there.

Its private ghat on the banks of Ganges lets guests’ enjoy a dip in the holy water at utmost peace. One can also choose to unwind in the tranquil ambience overlooking the river and enjoy the fresh breeze and sound of gushing water.
