Tham Jiajun Mathew of Sunrise Global Chef Academy, Singapore was adjudged the champion of the third International Young Chef Olympiad 2017, an international culinary competition for culinary students, held at the aegis of International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) promoted by IndiSmart Group, Kolkata.
45 teams representing as many countries participated in the week-long competitions held in four rounds in four cities. Started in Delhi on January 28, the event travelled to Pune and Bengaluru before concluding at Kolkata yesterday.
Andrew Ou Kai Peng of Taylors University, Malaysia bagged the first runner up and Selah Schmoll of Canadian Food And Wine Institute, Niagara College, Canada took home the second runner-up trophy.
Puja Mishra of IIHM, representing India took home the trophy for best cooked vegetarian dish.
The grand finale was attended among others by Principal Judge and chief Mentor of the YCO, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Technical Judges Chef Ranveer Brar, Chef Abhjeet Saha, Food Critic Karen Anand, Chef Boris Leung of Hong Kong, Dr. Suborno Bose, Chief Mentor and CEO of IIHM and IndiSmart Group, and a host of City Judges from all four cities.
“IIHM is a front-runner in innovation and development of human resource in the Indian hospitality industry. Events like these created by IIHM are truly appreciated globally in times of such turbulence where hospitality and Humanness is the call of the hour,” said Professor David Foskett, Chairman of the Jury. |
