DineEquity’s American restaurant chain – International House of Pancakes (IHOP) recently announced its partnership with India-based Kwal’s Group to open 20 outlets in North and South of India over a span of 10 years. The F&B brand has debuted in the Indian market with its first outlet in DLF Cyber Hub, Gurugram, Delhi-NCR. Further expansion is planned in Delhi-NCR (two more outlets) and into the new markets of Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Mumbai.

Sameer Lamba, Managing Director, Kwal’s Group said, “We will expand our presence in the Indian market in due course of time with an investment of INR 100 crore across 20 restaurants. I am myself a huge fan of IHOP and realising the huge gap in the breakfast space in India, we decided to launch the brand in India.”

Gary Moore, Vice President-International, DineEquity, Inc added, “Since past three years, we have been scouting for a franchise partner and have been home-working from last two years together with Kwal’s Group. The next two Indian outlets will also be opened at a strategic location in Delhi-NCR. Once we have few setups running well in Delhi, the city of Bengaluru is next on our cards.”

With over 1700 restaurants globally and counting, for IHOP the Indian market is a potential market in Asia. India boasts of a very family oriented culture and we believe IHOP will fit in very well, he exclaimed. On the global expansion front, DineEquity is opening one restaurant every month in Middle East, Canada, South America, etc. The next opening is scheduled in Thailand two weeks from now.

The first outlet in India features the same menu similar to the standard USA outlets. Few things have been tailored keeping the local palate in mind. Also, keeping the vegetarians in mind, this is for the first time that IHOP has debuted with eggless pancakes in India.

Talking about the competition with established F&B brands, Moore asserts that choice is always good. “We specialise in offering breakfast and thus have consciously chosen this location of DLF Cyber Hub in Gurugram. We are a new F&B brand in the Indian market and the broad menu offering is set to generate huge interest among the people,” he quoted.
