Tea Culture of the World - A Healthy Affair

Tea Culture of the World is a company that offers an exquisite range of herbal and flavoured teas from around the world. A fondness for a particular blend of herbal tea soon became a passion and resulted in Dr. Rupali Ambegaonkar’s entrepreneurial venture. Kathryn B K speaks to her to know more about Tea Culture of the World.

From being someone who did not like tea much to evolving into a devout tea lover, Dr. Rupali Ambegaonkar, CEO at Tea Culture of the World has come a very long way. Once, in the year 2008, she happened to brew some tea sent across as a gift from a family friend in China, named Tieguanyin, which also was the prior name of Tea Culture of the World. That one sip of the tea got her hooked and she just fell in love with tea. Since that year till this date, there has been no looking back for Ambegaonkar. She says, “A single sip started my quest to source teas from across the globe and to start my own company that also procures signature blends.”

Tea Culture of the World materialised soon after she tasted the tea from China. She has tried and tasted teas, perfected signature blends and also tried new teas during her travel to different countries across the globe. Ambegaonkar stayed in tea estates in China and Japan, to understand tea and its finer nuances. Sharing her experience staying at the tea estates, she says, “It was a wonderful experience to witness first-hand growth of tea and the process it undergoes. Living there, I learnt that each tea has its own health benefits to offer and some even had tales/stories associated with them.”

Teas of Tea Culture of the World are sourced not just from India, but also Japan, China, South Africa, Argentina and many more countries.

Combining tea & medicine
Studying medicine has proved beneficiary for Ambegaonkar as she combines flavours and medicines to create unique blends. She says, “Studying medicine has definitely given me a different approach for looking at teas. I make sure that the tea and blends that I concoct have health benefits to it.” These combinations are evident in many of the blends offered by Tea Culture of the World. The signature blend of the company, Easy Digest has ingredients like ginger, lemon, peppermint, licorice root, fennel seeds which not only improve digestion but also strengthen the entire gastrointestinal tract. Stressbuster tea is a calming blend of Chamomile and sage with undertones of honey. It naturally soothes the nerves, relieves mental exhaustion and helps to sleep better.

Future roadmap
Tea Culture of the World is planning to raise about USD 3 million. Talking about this development, Ambegaonkar said, “Currently, we are in talks with various VC funds and we have received a good response. We are planning to divest a minority stake in the company in lieu of the same.”

The company markets through its e-commerce website as well as through renowned retail outlets across metro cities in India. It also does gifting, corporate orders, and exclusive weddings.

Tea Culture of the World plans on launching new teabag packaging with new blends, as well as open more retail outlets pan India. The company is keen to achieve global brand recognition in the coming years.
