MTDC and State’s Ministry of Tourism partner to launch Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra in association with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), on Tuesday announced the launch of the first edition of its newly developed annual property, the Mumbai Shopping Festival (MSF) – India’s first of its kind citywide festival that will be celebrated from January 12-31, 2018.

Speaking about the Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said, “For the very first time in India, your government is pleased to create a unique shopping experience to be held across the city of Mumbai, called- the Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018. I am honored and pleased to announce that this festival will be taking place from January 12-31, 2018, launching Mumbai as a world-class shopping destination. The theme of #MumBuyKar will epitomise the shopper in each Mumbaikar – especially with the new notification by our Government which permits shops and establishments to remain open 24X7”

 “With Mumbai Shopping Festival, it is our aim to establish this event on a global platform as one of the most sought-after and visited shopping and cultural festivals of the world. This is already one of the biggest initiatives by MTDC and the Ministry of Tourism and we are determined to make it even bigger in the coming years,” said Jaykumar Rawal, Minister of Tourism & (EGS), Government of Maharashtra.

As per the official release, comprehending the recent notification by the Government of Maharashtra where shops and establishments can now stay open 24X7, the Ministry of Tourism and MTDC will set up MSF Night Bazaar that will go on till 4 am on weekends only, to ensure that citizens derive the maximum benefit from Shopping Festival. The MSF Night Bazaar would be held in non-residential defined zones which will have shopping till 4 am on January 19 & 20 at Malad, and on January 26 & 27 at Powai. There will be multiple events across the city, every weekend throughout the festival. Mumbai will see over 500 performances in multiple stages across 13 different locations including Crawford Market; Worli Sea Face; Bandra Bandstand; Shivaji Park; Goregaon; TalavPali Thane; Kalyan; Juhu Beach; Vashi Railway station; Kharghar and Kandivali, among others.

The festival will also showcase MSF KhaoGalli - Mumbai’s first Food Truck Zones set up in different areas over the weekends. The MSF KhaoGalli in association with Food Trucks Association of India will be held at popular public hangout spots on January 13 & 14 at Worli Sea Face; January 19 & 20 at Malad, and on January 26 & 27 at Powai.

The Color Run, a unique race that celebrates wellness, happiness, and individuality with over 6 million runners worldwide in 40+ countries will be launched as part of the Mumbai Shopping Festival. The Color Run will be held at Jio Gardens, Bandra-Kurla Complex on January 14, 2018. To add more charm to the festival, lucky shoppers will be given daily, weekly and a bumper prizes during the festival.
