Cocoatrait collaborates with IICCT to bring Level 1 & 2 chocolate taster certification to India

With an aim of spreading knowledge about fine chocolates, formalizing the chocolate tasting education in India and establishing India in the global fine flavour map, Cocoatrait, an initiative by L Nitin Chordia, India’s first certified Chocolate taster, has collaborated with the International Institute of Chocolate and Cacao Tasting, London (IICCT) to introduce Level 1&2 of the chocolate taster’s certification in India. The programme will be rolled out in India starting from April, 2018.


 IICCT currently offers the certification in 7 countries across the globe including United Kingdom, USA, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

 “The Chocolate Tasting certificate courses take an interactive approach, exploring the gastronomic senses to awaken and educate our chocolate palates, while taking an in depth look at the fascinating and fast evolving world of small scale fine chocolate making, based on our 25 years of experience tasting and reviewing fine chocolate and exploring the world of fine cacao. The certification program globally brings together professionals to a higher level of understanding of cacao & fine chocolate. We are pleased to partner with Cocoatrait to bring this education platform for the benefit of the enthusiastic and enterprising Indian audience,” says Martin Christy, Founder, IICCT. 

Students who take the Level 1 Certificate in Chocolate Tasting Course will learn how to taste original chocolate bars and will develop an understanding of how cacao is grown and processed, how chocolate is made and how to identify positive and negative notes in fine cacao and chocolate. The Level 1 is a 1-day classroom session and sets the foundation for the next 2 levels of certification. The Level 2 is also being offered and is a 3-day classroom session.  

Chordia has a chocolate institute called Cocoashala in Chennai which is India's premier institute for learning Bean to bar chocolate making. “We work with farmers and procure cocoa beans and also do a lot of work with various chocolate formats. We shall start offering India's first Chocolate Tasting Certification Courses starting in Chennai from June 22 to 26, 2018,” Chordia informed
