More than 100 vintage and classic motor cars from both India and abroad will participate in the 8th annual Vintage Car Rally and Concours Show organised by 21 Gun Salute with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in Delhi NCR on February 17 and 18. The rally which will begin from India Gate lawns on February 17 will travel through the Lutyens Delhi before proceeding to two-day Concours show of Vintage cars scheduled at Ambience Greens Golf course in Gurgaon.

According to rally organisers besides Vintage and Classic cars from across India, there will be participation from countries like USA, Singapore, Italy, UK, France, Seychelles, etc. at this year’s rally. Around 30 international jury members will be judging the rally and the show this year.

Speaking about the heritage car rally and its impact on tourism, Madan Mohan, Chairman & Managing Trustee of 21 Gun Salute Heritage & Cultural Trust said that motoring tourism is a big impact niche tourism product world over and the vision is to place India on the world motoring tourism map. Governments world over support these rallies because they bring high value tourists to the destination, he said. “No travel segment in the world produces the value motoring tourism makes,” he said. Mohan said that the objective is to design more rallies with the support of the government in the coming years.  ‘We are planning to organise a long vintage car rally in 2019 covering Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Bikaner, Kutch, Mandvi, Bhavnagar, etc. We have got about 35 registrations already for the rally. In 2020, we are planning two big rallies in India and by 2022 we will have 10 such rallies happening across the country.  The idea is to attract large number of hi-end tourists to India and show them the real India to boost tourism through these rallies,” he said.

As in previous years, the rally is supported by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India through Incredible India branding. Appreciating the effort of the organisers of the rally, Suman Billa, Joint Secretary – Tourism, Government of India said that while India has one of the largest collection of motoring heritage, we have not been able to capitalise it and convert them into niche tourism product. The way 21 Gun Salute Rally has shaped up over the years presents an opportunity to harness that heritage and showcase it for the benefit of tourism in the country, he said.
