RARE India, a representation company of boutique hotels, retreats, camps and lodges, has successfully forayed into trade event business by setting up one-of-its-kind platform, Très RARE, to showcase finest boutique hotels, lodges, hideaways, retreats, and camps in the subcontinent, especially in India, Nepal and Bhutan. The first Très RARE show was held in Delhi on March 30 and 31 where about 50 unique boutique properties from the three countries participated.

With the overwhelming response the maiden show generated, RARE India has decided to make the show an annual calendar showcase.  According to Sowmya R Vijaymohan, Partner, RARE India, the event will be held on the last Friday and Saturday of March every year. “We have already announced the dates of our next year show on March 29 and 30,” she said.

She said that the trade show, which is both B2B and B2C, is designed to accommodate both RARE members and non-members. Out of the 50 boutique properties which participated in this year’s show 10 were non-RARE members. “Our endeavour is to grow the non-RARE participation in coming years,”she said that Très RARE is “by invitation” only show for both the suppliers and buyers with strict registration and audit processes are applied in both the cases.

“We have been working in the boutique space for a very long time. We thought it is time these hotels stood together so that their voice is heard. Because there are branded hotels, aggregators like Airbnb, etc., there are chances the messaging gets lost. That’s why thought of a dedicated trade show like this,” Vijaymohan added. Around 400 people visited the two-day show comprising over 150 DMCs and tour companies, 30 foreign operators from UK, US, France, Germany, etc., and discerning experiential travellers.

The two-day trade event held in the open lawns of Roseate Hotel New Delhi had a strict Green protocol with no plastic being used. The suppliers were divided into four categories like Tropical, Heritage, Wildlife, and Highlands based on their geography. Sowmya said that the decision to hold the event in a green open environment rather than usual air-conditioned trade show environment was deliberate considering the unique activity-oriented and experience-oriented nature of the products.
