‘We never wanted to be just another Sports Bar of the city’

Personalised service has been gaining momentum inside out in the hospitality industry in India over the past decade... In the loop, the restaurant segment has been thumping its way to encourage more people to eat outside by introducing signature dishes and beverages, one-ofits- kind ambience, and at times also adopting a theme. Miten Shah, Co-Founder, The Studs - Sports Grill and Bar interacts with Akshay Nayak to decode how the outlet has made a significant move in the restaurant segment with a novel concept and not just another sports bar in the city.

India has become one the fastest growing sports fan destinations in the world, going by the 2017 reports. Theme-based restaurants have a fancy of people’s excitement for visiting only for a limited period of time; till the time the customers explore the theme. Once the buzz and fizz of the theme is over, the restaurant takes a huge setback on the performance level. “However, when we link something to the content-based experience of the customer rather than just theme based, the customer is always excited to visit for the concept and the entertainment delivered from the same” says Shah.

This is what made them think that they must do something which constantly connects people with the place, more than just the theme. “Sports is one thing that clicked us with an ambition to fill up the gap in the market which was highly visible and required. It was also something that was largely linked to our strategy of coming up with content based outlets rather than just theme based, which are very short-lived concepts. And more than anything it is something that is never going to end for any given period of time,” adds Shah. Sports is increasing day-by-day and so are its followers. This makes the sports bars a perennial concept which will never have a dull period or will never fail to excite people.

Interior Features & Target Audience
The Studs, is focused to be one-of-its-kind Luxury Sports Bar segment diner and bar. “We never wanted to be just another sports bar of the city.” The Studs has created a benchmark in its league via its Interiors, Décor, the plushness and the technology that it has used in its outlets. Also, the most important aspect of any restaurant – food and liquor, have been given significantly high emphasis to make the definition of a luxury sports and entertainment experience stay true to itself.

The Sports fans just need to be informed to having such a place which is no less than a heaven for sports lovers and fans. Shah said, “We are focussing on making this reach widespread across the city of Mumbai currently,”

Brand Expansion Plans
The brand currently looks to tap the Mumbai and Pune market. It highly believes that these two cities in themselves have a huge success potential owing to its culture, demography, and taste of the people living here. Over the next 1-2 years, the brand looks to expand to the other metro cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Delhi – which have the highest scope of replicating the success it is having in Mumbai currently.

All the outlets of Studs are Franchise Owned - Brand Managed concepts. The brand is looking for expansion of the other outlets in the same manner where the brand will always keep the reins of management, operations and marketing of the outlets in its own hand to make sure the sustainability of the outlets is always intact.

F&B and other Amenities
Shah feels that now-a-days very few restaurants focus on authentic food to be honest. Most of the restaurants today have fusion food and only few of them get it right. “At The Studs, we have worked on the basics. The menu has got a right blend of contemporary Continental, Mediterranean and American cuisine, and is well thought of to keep the dishes which suit the mood as one has come in the sports bar. Meals are something we have very well taken care off, as that’s the most important course and people generally always forget or avoid having it in resto bars.” Also, The Studs Bar has got few of the amazing cocktails and mocktails.

Deemed to be first in India, The Studs has introduced Playstations on their tables of the customers. As a part of the leisure activities – this is a very unique proposition, much loved by the people of Mumbai. Also, the fading visibility of Pool tables which was found generally on highly dark and shady pool parlours – has been given a very modern look at The Studs and a special Pool Table zone is created for people to enjoy the same.

The Studs in Juhu, is franchise-owned by Kamlesh Gosia, Partner, Landmark Hospitality and managed by Miten Shah and Abhilash Menon, Co- Founders of Ambros World Foods.
