Q What is the inspiration behind the Hospitality Training show and the aims and objectives of the initiative?
The Indian hospitality industry is growing 9% year on year with a great rise in domestic tourism. Industry experts say that another 60,000 rooms will be added across the country, in various category hotels and resorts. Experts suggest that the hospitality industry alone will require one million additional professionals by the year 2023. However, there is a great need gap between trained staff for these many upcoming properties.
The need for trained staff across all categories is the need of the hour. While hospitality institutes offer skill training, they are often unable to provide training in a real time environment. Karma Hospitality has taken a lead to bring in the change in the system and is coming up with a disruptive new concept. This is India's first Hospitality Training Show, titled 'India's Top Hotelier', which uses the premise of a Reality Game Show, to bring in engaging and educative content on the basic tenets of hospitality.
Q How do you plan to package the videos, its modules, etc. to make it a credible engagement for the viewers?
It is a web series in a form of reality show followed by a master class. The idea of the reality show is to engage the audience with a hook, emotion, drama, action, whatever that one think interests the individual and then lead them towards training and learning. We realised that engaging content is very critical in today's digital world. Instead of regular classroom training, one needs to create content that will interest people, be smart phone friendly and can be consumed anytime.
Q Who are your target audience and how do you plan to reach out to them to make it an educative endeavour?
The target audience for this show is the generation who is ready to
learn and is planning to choose a career path. This is going to be a disruptor in the training field. The idea is to uplift the basic skill of the front line staff for the industry at large. I hope that each individual identifies with someone in the series and aspire to do better in their job. Being on a mobile platform and free to air, I hope it does good for the industry and upgrades the basic skill of the work force in a small restaurant or in a star category hotel. It is also the democratization of training, as we are removing entry barriers, logistics issues and it is free to all. I am really hopeful that this training helps us address need gaps in the industry.

Q Which are the platforms through which you plan to distribute these videos and the partnerships if any?
The show will be out soon and it will be featured on Youtube and will be promoted via FB where they have 10k followers. Link: http://www.indiastophotelier.com/?fbclid=IwAR2-tzSDfsjCNZLZVfLXKRlxfhEC3GHjoJ3G-npqpUXKkwzw8xjhMxWyxB8

Q What is the mechanism for evaluating the results and rewarding the participants?
While the backbone of the videos remains training, they are not presented in a normal training format. Instead, the content has been shot as a reality game show, to offer engaging and emotional content for viewers. The videos will cover two major aspects - Skill and Attitude in a reality show format, 15 food and beverage service training modules divided into mini web series and a cash award for the winner of India's first Hospitality service reality show. The jury comprises of Magan Kalra, Aadhar Kumar, Fiona Saini and Ankur Chawala. The jury also consists of a celebrity judge who is evaluating the participants as a guest or a customer, the other industry experts evaluate the participants on skill and attitude. The series works on the premise of self-evaluation for the people watching.
