Amatra Hotels and Resorts, the luxury hospitality brand has initiated a plan to become a zero-waste and sustainable hospitality company in the coming years.

The Malaysia-based luxury hotel chain operator is also looking to implement Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to eradicate single-use plastic by 2022 in all their properties.

The brand is looking at a reduction of 150 Kg/Year of single-use plastic in Financial Year 2020-21 and with seven properties expected to be added in its portfolio, the total reduction will be about 750 kg of single-use plastic.
Amatra’s vision is to move towards “Zero Waste Concept” which will ensure zero discharge of hotel waste that is hazardous to land, water or air when burnt or buried. Amatra is introducing biodegradable packaging for its in-room amenities in-line with GOI’s initiative against single-use plastic.

To ensure there is no food wastage among its properties, the hospitality firm would convert a large amount of food waste into organic manure.
Moreover, to reduce its emissions, Amatra is also planning to increase the contribution of solar and other renewable energies into its regular energy requirements, this also includes investing in rooftop solar plants on its properties to meet a sizeable amount of its energy needs.

“India is moving ahead in the global hierarchy and is eyeing to be a leader in reducing its carbon emissions, zero single plastic use, and increasing sustainable development. Amatra is also on the same mission to ensure to establish benchmarks in the hospitality sector in India with sustainable development and zero waste policy,” Preety Arora (Head-Business Strategy), Amatra Hotels and Resorts said.

Currently, Amatra has two properties, Amatra Dunsvirk Court in Mussoorie and Amatra by the Ganges in Haridwar. Going ahead, it is looking to acquire exemplary properties in Goa, Rajasthan, Kerala, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and few other leisure locations across the country.
