One of the leading manufacturers and distributors of a comprehensive range of carpets has recently announced receiving Declare LBC Red List Free certification of its EcoSoft modular Carpet Tile. This prestigious achievement signifies that Carpets Inter products are of high-end quality and are devoid of Red List chemicals considered to be harmful to humans and harmful on the environment.

Carpets Inter has been felicitated with this award for its high-performance one-of-its-kind eco-friendly Ecosoft® product. The brand marked the initiation of a new era in the development of high-performance and environmentally friendly carpet tile cushion backing. It is the next generation of carpet tile backing in the truest sense that is prepared from 80% post-consumer material reengineered from millions of discarded single-use drink bottles, along with 5% post-industrial recycled PET.

Achieving this recognition is indeed another feather in the cap for the Carpets Inter that is known in the market for producing high-end sustainable carpets. It is a testimony of the fact that the brand is committed towards material transparency to provide hygienic and healthy products to enhance wellbeing within the occupied space by its sustainable offerings. The brand not only develops, but also manufactures its products to be environmentally and health-friendly through an eco-design approach.

Ever since the award’s inception in 2012, Declare is working with an aim to bring about a positive change in the materials marketplace by offering ease of use to both manufacturers and specifiers. It also facilitates the smooth exchange of information and boosts the future of healthier buildings, under globally recognized standards such as BREEAM, LEED and WELL certification. With the latest version, Declare 2.0, the program aims at pushing the industry towards a holistic approach to material health. Declare is regarded as the toughest materials transparency standards in sustainable construction domain. The program enables manufacturers to communicate their products material ingredients, so as to promote transparency and accountability to the as-built facility.

Launched by ILFI in partnership with Toxnot, Declare product submission process is a robust and streamlined material reporting platform. It is a transparent product database platform that rewards both manufacturers as well as designers across the industry for their concerted efforts to upscale the market with their innovative and sustainable offerings. Taking into consideration key aspects about the product, such as its origin, raw materials as well its destination (that is the end of its life), every application undergoes a thorough ‘Life-Cycle analysis’.

The label evaluates a product as per its compliance with all the imperatives applicable to the selection of building products that adhere to the standards of Living Building Challenge 4.0. This includes compliance with low VOC emission levels, Red List requirements, along with responsible sourcing (that is the product meets the ILFI’s definition of low risk or salvaged wood or through the use of a formal LBC exception). International Living Future Institute also collaborates with third-party assessors, so as to conduct an in-depth background check and thorough analysis of the participants’ applications.

Expressing his elation on receiving this recognition, Mr. Richard Morris, Global Business Director, Carpets Inter, said, “It is indeed a joyous moment for our team to have been rewarded with this prominent industry award, Declare 2.0. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to both Declare Label as well as International Living Future Institute for recognizing EcoSoft modular flooring with this award.
