W Goa has promoted Ajay Jawahar Sharma to Director of B&F, having previously carried the role of Assistant Director of B&F at W Goa. A veteran of the hospitality industry, Ajay has worked across reputed hotel chains such as Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Intercontinental Hotels Group and now Marriott International in his over 15 year stint in the industry.
Speaking of his journey at W Goa so far, Ajay shares, “Once you enter W Goa, the vibe and energy is electrifying. In his new role, Ajay is all set to disrupt the F&B industry by introducing two new food & beverage experience zones to W Goa. His mantra is, “with ever-changing market dynamics and mood matrix, evolution is necessary”. This can be seen with the introduction of Sylvia – W Goa’s premier gin bar that is set to become home to the best gin & gin cocktails from all over the world.
Ajay has won numerous awards & accolades for both the W brand and himself, most notably: Asia Pacific - Leadership Excellence - Most Improved Retention 2018; Asia Pacific - Leadership Excellence - Financial Performance 2018; Asia Pacific - Best Year on Year Restaurants and Bars Revenue Growth 2018; Asia Pacific- INCA Open Air Bar of the Year- Rockpool- 2019.
Ajay, however, still considers his greatest accomplishment to be his humble beginnings as the son of a farmer and how with sheer determination he earned enough money to gain an education in Hotel Management. Over time, Ajay realized the challenges he faced due to not being able to speak English so he started carrying a pocket dictionary and reading newspapers to learn the language. Funnily enough, he made it all the way to the United Kingdom as the Assistant Manager at Holiday Inn Oxford, before returning to India, where he’s the Director of B&F at W Goa today. |
