Hotel Association of India (HAI) was invited to appear before the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism & Culture, headed by Shri T.G. Venkatesh, M.P., Rajya Sabha on the 9th of September.  HAI was represented by its Corporate Member Dr. (Ms.) Jyotsna Suri and Chairperson & MD, Bharat Hotels Limited and Mr.  Ajay Bakaya, Fellow Member HAI and MD, Sarovar Hotels Pvt. Ltd. The committee heard the Association’s views on the adequacy or otherwise of the financial assistance provided by the banks as per the directions of the Government of India to the hospitality sector with regard to grant of loans and moratorium-related issues in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. The committee also heard from the stakeholders on the implementation of relief measures extended by the Government of India for various sectors under the series of Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).

This is the second appearance of the Association before the Parliamentary Standing Committee. The committee, in the previous appearance, had heard HAI’s views on the ‘Distress in Tourism and Hospitality Sectors due to COVID-19 pandemic’. Yesterday’s   hearing was focused around understanding the roadblocks to the effective and successful implementation of the ECLGS scheme. HAI deeply appreciates the opportunity to share suggestions with the august committee and the committee's efforts and commitment in finding the right solutions to the financial crisis in the hospitality sector and saving livelihoods and jobs of the industry workforce.

HAI in its various representations to the Finance ministry and RBI has been highlighting the need to customise the ECLGS scheme and tailor it to the specific and unique business model and the future outlook of the sector.
