“My focus is now to expand my vertical to delivery platforms”

Last year's lockdown made dentist turned baker Mansi Mhatre, realise that not only is she a good doctor who loves to see her patients smile, but also a good baker whose specially made cupcakes bring joy to consumers. This turned the dentist into a baker and then she went on to become the founder of Sweet Sins. Asmita Mukherjee spoke with Mahtre to know more about her journey from a dentist to baker.
 
What motivated you to turn into a baker from being a dentist?
 
Lockdown turned out to be a great opportunity for people like me to launch a business that we always dreamed about. I love both my professions, the feeling when a patient finally smiles after a treatment and a customer giving a positive review for my bakes, is the same for me, and both are equally important. The only challenge which I faced while launching Sweet Sins, was balancing my life between two professions. However, I have mastered that art too. Soon, I would love to enrol myself in baking courses, as I am always more than ready to learn new things in life.
 
 
What are your immediate plans for Sweet Sins?
 
Before Sweet Sins happened, I used to sell in my inner circle. Soon, the word spread and I started getting more orders. I always wanted to do this with a larger audience, so currently, my focus is to expand my vertical to delivery platforms and experiment with innovative new ideas for the brand which will help it reach a level further.
 
Kindly brief us about your product portfolio.
 
As I am new to this baking business, I have kept very limited but quality options on our menu. I believe that one must always compete on quality, and not price, because it is the quality and range of products that justify the prices charged. It is the only thing that will make people choose us over our competitors and bring more business. So, currently, we have varieties of brownies, cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and vegan desserts available on our menu. Out of these, I have got an amazing response for the fudgy chocolate brownies and rich chocolate cakes and cupcakes.
 
Kindly explain your expansion and investment plans?
 
Talking about the expansion plans, I believe that tiny steps lead us to a big success path. So my focus is to take one step at a time starting from increasing my customer base via friends and social media, experimenting with desserts for the menu, to investing in the right equipment that will lead me closer to my dream of starting my bakery cafe.

Are you looking at tie-ups with hospitality brands?

At the moment, I am not planning any tie-ups with hospitality brands, as I am still in the process to build a strong foundation for my brand, however, I would be surely happy to collaborate with hospitality brands in the near future.
