Drunken Monkey spreading the Smoothie Revolution across the country

Drunken Monkey is one of the fastest-growing smoothie chains of India which delivers blended natural-fruit smoothies, smoothie bowls and juices. Over the past five years, Drunken Monkey has opened up about 100 smoothie bars across India. In this year, Drunken Monkey is planning to double up its presence in India, reaching over 200 outlets. 

Speaking on the expansion plans of the brand, Samrat Reddy, Founder, Drunken Monkey, said, “The pandemic has made us relook at our expansion plans. Health and overall wellness has become the single most important factor for every one of us. Smoothies made out of natural fresh fruits and veggies are healthy, functional and super tasty. It has became the need of the hour for customers all over India, giving Drunken Monkey the impetus to target and open in 200 locations this year.”

In terms of foothold, the brand till now was focusing mainly in the southern part of the country which was predominantly in 5 states, but now the brand is planning to expand all over India. “80 percent of the current outlets are in the southern part of India, predominantly in 5 states. Drunken Monkey has started expansion in the West and the North of India with new outlets coming up in Mumbai and Delhi NCR respectively.

 Most of the expansion this year will be in these untapped markets of the northern and western part of India, with Delhi and Mumbai and the hubs. Along with this, some expansion in the east would give Drunken Monkey a 100 percent presence in all cities in India and would truly start the smoothie revolution. With naturally high, being the tagline for the brand, Drunken Monkey would strive to keep India naturally high with its fresh smoothies.” 

He has also informed that, Drunken Monkey will be looking at international expansion in the next financial year. “The markets we will be looking out for would be the USA, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia.” 

Along with a vast expansion plan,  Drunken Monkey has recently also diversified its product portfolio, “Just before the lockdown, the menu and products got a complete upgrade. Smoothie bowls were recently introduced for the first time in India by any cafe chain. So this year would be the time to delightfully provide our customers these delicious and healthy smoothies and smoothie bowls. As of now, Drunken Monkey has about 200 varieties of smoothies with a variety of fruits ranging from local to exotic, from figs to dragon fruits to varieties of nuts etc.,” Reddy informed.

Speaking about his target turnover for this financial year Reddy said, “The brand’s turnover was about INR 60 crore in the last financial year and INR 100 crore is the target for the coming year.”

Informing that the brand is currently not looking out to invest, but has investment plans in the near future, Reddy said, “As per date, Drunken Monkey has not taken any funding; all required funds have been bootstrapped and managed internally. There are no immediate plans for investment in a big way, but we have certain plans laid out after a year or so, and will adapt as we go forward.”
