Oxford University Press organoses panel discussion on 'Future of Hospitality Management in India post Covid-19'

Oxford University Press, India (OUPI), the world’s largest university press, on Wednesday, December 15th 2021, organized a panel on the 'Future of Hospitality Management in India post Covid-19' in association with Ms. Smritee Raghubalan, OUP author for Hotel Housekeeping – Operations and Management; Chef Kasiviswanathan, Director of Food & Beverage at Radisson Hotel Group; as well as Rupam Dutta, General Manager at Feathers: A Radha Hotel, Chennai. The webinar addressed the emerging trends, given the impact of the pandemic on the industry, as well as shed light on the evolution of marketing and guest communication in the post COVID-19 era. 

Rupam Datta, General Manager at Feathers: A Radha Hotel, Chennai discussed the innovative and creative tactics employed by hotels to attract both leisure and business travellers, the expected role of online aggregators going forward, as well as the new marketing strategies being adopted. He also discussed the need to reduce staffing levels and focus on staff training to align with new operating procedures with regards to consumer touch points as well as to keep the staff motivated and ahead on the learning curve.

Chef Kasiviswanathan, Director of Food & Beverage at Radisson Hotel Group stated that in the post COVID era the industry is eager to identify and apply innovative tactics to impress customers and the food and beverage delivery systems offer an interesting opportunity. Health and immunity building continue to take centre stage as they impact recipes, preparation of dishes as well as the overall safety and hygiene protocols followed in the kitchen and dining area.

Professor Smritee Raghubalan, OUP author of Hotel Housekeeping & Operations and Management explained how housekeeping is not limited to cleanliness but also impacts the constant maintenance and the upkeep of the hotel. She shared some of the key innovations and technology driven housekeeping practices that hotels must adopt to stay ahead of the curve – post COVID. In the current scenario housekeeping has emerged as a critical serve, hence it is imperative to enhance training and upskilling for the employees while creating necessary awareness amongst the guests. She suggested developing an audio-visual advisory list for all guests in order to maintain health and hygiene standards amongst all guests across the property.
