According to a PTI report, bartenders and pubs across the country have now gathered to participate in a 'responsible drinking' drive. In attempt to promote awareness on alcohol consumption and associated behaviour, The Institute of Bar Operations and Management (IBOM) recently launched its campaign titled ‘Drink Aware India’ in response to alcohol-related violence in and around the entertainment centres.

“There is a huge void in the industry due to lack of awareness about alcohol consumption. Contrary to what many people believe, alcohol is not a stimulant. It is a depressant. I started this programme to spread the 'Serve Responsibly and Drink Responsibly’ message,” says Sandeep Verma, the man behind the campaign.

Under the campaign, select pubs across India will hold weekly workshops where consumers can learn more about their drinking capacity and etiquettes. “We conduct training workshops at various bars for consumers as well for hospitality professionals and educate them about alcohol and responsible service of alcohol,” says Verma, Director, IBOM.
