The pre-convention conference of 15th Hotel and Restaurant Association Western India (HRAWI) was held in ITC Grand Central in Mumbai. Speaking at the occasion, S P Jain, President, HRAWI has proposed to the state governments of Western region to increase tourism development fund for their respective states. Stressing the same, Jain adds, “To promote and market tourism in respective states, tourism budget allocation needs to be increased.”

Jain states, “Hospitality industry yields highest number of employment and foreign exchange compared to other industries. The industry has a wide scope but due to the lackadaisical attitude of the central and the state governments, the inflow of tourist has dropped by nine to 10 per cent and foreign exchange has reduced by 12 per cent.”

Gurbaxish Singh Kohli, Chairman, Convention Organising Committee, says, “The convention's theme is 'Hospitality Safe and Sound' and the interactive business sessions in the convention will address new challenges faced by the hospitality industry.”

Kamlesh Barot, Honorary Secretary, HRAWI, adds, “At present we have around 200 delegates registered for the convention and expect around 400 delegates for the convention. Profile of the delegates include hoteliers, restaurateurs and government officials.”

Elaborating on the business sessions, D S Advani, Joint Honorary Secretary, HRAWI, says, “There will be three business sessions namely security management; managing cost and improve your bottomline and an open forum session with government officials.” Other issues like license fees, FSI, electricity duty and challenges faced by the industry due to economic downturn will be discussed in the convention.
