As part of the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) initiative to overcome shortage of skilled manpower in the hospitality sector, National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), the nodal agency for hospitality education under MoT will formulate curriculum for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in subjects like food production and food and beverage service. CBSE will introduce these hospitality subjects in the Higher Secondary Level from the next academic year. For the same, CBSE will identify 25 schools, comprising Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalays across the country.

MoT will provide financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to schools to develop infrastructure like kitchens for training students. “We will help one or two schools to set up the infrastructure initially, so that the same can be replicated in other schools also,” informed an official of NCHMCT. The official informed that the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) nearer to the school will function as a ‘Mentor Institute’ and offer guidance required for the schools.
