Ever since the 26/11 terrorist attacks, hotels in Mumbai are not taking any chances and have hired the services of background screening firms and appointed ex-armed forces personnel, besides installing a host of new security devices to prevent such attacks in the future.
According to a report by Mayank Soni of the Times of India, Ashish Dehade, Managing Director, First Advantage, a background screening firm, earlier claimed that only a couple of hotels consulted them, they now have more than a dozen hotels on their clientele. “After the attacks, every hotel has felt the need to address security issues seriously. We conduct criminal record, education and reference checks of employees as well as contractual house-keeping staff who have access to guests’ rooms.”
There have been several changes in the policies of hotels regarding security, one of them being asking the staff to leave within 20 minutes of finishing their respective shifts.
