MoT releases Rs 16 cr for upgradation of tourism projects in Chandigarh

Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India, has released the highest ever Central aid of Rs 16 crore for new projects in Chandigarh. This was informed by Ram Niwas, Home Secretary, Chandigarh during a meeting with top officials recently.

According to a report in The Times of India, Niwas said the move will enable upgradation of the city’s main attractions, including Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, eco tourism park-cum-botanical garden, Patiali-Ki-Rao and developing new gardens in the southern sectors. Earlier, the government had sanctioned a Central assistance of Rs 11.5 crore to promote tourism infrastructure.

According to information, the administration had received Rs 4.51 crore for development of garden of palms and children adventure park near the lake in sector-42, besides Valley of Animals and Sunken Garden in sector 50. Sources said Sukhna Lake will also get a face-lift wherein the seating area and flooring will be replaced with pavit tiles and red stone.

Work at the lake will start from the entrance, near The Chandigarh Industrial Tourism corporation (CITCO’s) cafeteria and progress towards the bandstand on the lake promenade.
