According to a PTI report, tourism-friendly policy of Himachal Pradesh government and revival of Indian economy has boosted tourism in the state, which has witnessed around 15 per cent increase in arrival of visitors for Christmas and New Year this year. Arun Sharma, Director of Tourism, Himachal Pradesh said that on the basis of hotel room bookings, it can be said that there has been around 15 per cent increase in tourist arrivals in the state.
Reports gathered from marketing offices of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), which runs a chain of its hotels across the state, showed about 90 per cent occupancy of rooms in its 57 hotels. Subhashish Panda, Managing Director, HPTDC said, “While HPTDC hotels in Shimla and Kullu-Manali are packed till the New Year, occupancy in other hotels at different locations is over 90 per cent.” Officials in the state tourism department said nearly 50,000 visitors had visited the state last year, and figures are expected to rise substantially this year. |
