According to a PTI report, an Indian restaurant in Norflok, UK has been fined 5,000 Pound and ordered to pay legal cost by a local court for its failure to maintain hygiene despite repeated warnings from health inspectors. The Lynn Magistrate court, in West Norflok, ordered the owners of ‘India Gate’ restaurant to pay 5,000 Pounds fine and 1,837 pounds as legal costs after health inspectors found the instances of unhygienic conditions.
The owner appearing at the court admitted 10 charges and was fined 500 Pounds for each of the charges. Vicki Hopps, the Council’s Principal Environmental Health Officer, said the restaurant was inspected between February 27 and March 3, 2009 when unsatisfactory standards of hygiene in the kitchen were discovered.
“The company showed disregard for food safety. Chopping boards were ingrained with dirt, cooked food was stored next to raw food and pans of cooked rice were left standing on the floor,” she said, adding it was obvious that no food safety management was in place.
“Despite making recommendations for improvement, follow-up visits showed that remedial actions were not taken. |
