DISCUS certifies five bars in the country as certified American Whiskey Bars

Distilled Spirits Council of the US (DISCUS), while completing the year-long training and workshops for the year 2017 pan-India, has certified five restro bars in the country as ‘Certified American Whiskey Bar’ in the country. This is the first time DISCUS is certifying bars as Certified American Whiskey bars. The first lot of five American Whiskey bars are AER Lounge and Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai, Bootlegger Bar in Bengaluru, The Stables bar & restaurant at Peninsula RedPine Hotel, Mumbai, PCO in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, and Public Affair, Khan Market, Delhi.  


The certificates were handed over to the respective bars at a tasting session and workshop hosted by DISCUS in Delhi. 

Speaking about the first lot of certification, Yangdup Lama, eminent mixologist and American Whiskey Ambassador said that they will continue to engage and reach out to new bars and bartenders with the new set of certifications in the New Year. Talking about the criteria, Lama said that the criteria for selection was straight and simple. “We have identified those bars which were instrumental in stocking and promoting American Whiskeys and also more forthcoming in hosting American Whiskey training sessions and educational events for certification. Endeavour is to make American Whiskeys and cocktails as popular as possible,” he said.

 Lama said that there has been growing interest to participate in the training sessions by bars and bartenders in the last one year and that has lead to improved recognition and awareness in the consumers about the “fabulous American Whiskeys of Bourbon and Tennessee.”

 “We try to educate the bartenders about the rich history of American whiskeys. It’s a different product when it comes to Whiskey style. American whiskey is so versatile that it works will with everything. It goes well with spices, fresh herbs, tropical juices, etc.,” he said when asked about how American whiskeys can become a perfect base of Indian flavours.

 “American Whiskeys are in great demand around the world – with India as an important gateway and trend-setter for other key growth markets in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Keith Sunderlal, DISCUS India representative. “These events are aimed to showcase the heritage and flavours of American Whiskeys and share them with our discerning consumers. The response to American Whiskeys in India has been terrific and we are optimistic about further growth,” he added.
