In my recent interactions with the hospitality industry, I have noticed a growing concern among hoteliers regarding the need for a website for their hotels. Even during International Conference on Travel Technology (ICTT) India in Kovalam, Kerala this year, quite a few hoteliers raised this question. With Online Travel Agents (OTAs) ruling the roost and review sites becoming the final influencer for almost all hotel bookings, why do hotels need their own websites? You could just have a Facebook page with nice images and information and the rest can be left to OTAs and review websites. This is wrong; so very wrong.
The importance of web presence for hoteliers, on the contrary, can hardly be overstated. Given that eight out of ten tourists garner information about their destinations and hotels online, no one can afford to underestimate the importance of web presence. Some hoteliers go to the extent of saying, “In today’s world, if you do not exist in the virtual world, it means you do not exist at all.”
