Latch onto the domestic pie
There has been a shift, that too a perceptible one, in the sales and marketing strategy of our hotels in the last few years. By hotels, I mean the luxury hotels, who had exclusively focused on catering to international tourists. The increasing competition in the luxury space, and the perceptible fragility and unpredictability of inbound has actually forced these hotels to create demand in the domestic market on a continuous basis, irrespective of the tourism seasonalities, by floating packages exclusively for domestic travellers. The same strategy employed by Low Cost Airlines (LCCs) is being replicated by hospitality players also, to create demand by lowering prices for long-term sustainability. The Taj, The Oberoi and others are all competing for the domestic pie through tantalising offers. The strategy to hold back the Indian outbound and make them experience unrivalled hospitality in India itself has paid off if the growth in domestic overnights in many of the niche luxury hotels are anything to be believed. more>>
