Need for a Balancing Act
Is it appropriate to mix social issues with business and industry? Is it right to blame a business or an industry or point fingers at them for some grave behavioural issues of a section of the society? It is high time we started debating this issue more seriously and find judicious answers acceptable to everyone. Otherwise, service industries like tourism, hotels, restaurants and pubs, etc. have to bear the brunt of myopic policies of the regulators. The recent ‘Abkari’ (excise) policy of the Kerala government is one such action, which drew flak from every quarter of the society.
