Hospitality sector can reduce soaring energy costs by adopting several best practices currently offered

The cost of electricity is a key component in the total operating cost of a hotel, and this vital input is expected to get even more expensive going forward, which necessitates the need for efficient and innovative techniques. A sizable portion of electricity, nearly 40-50 per cent, is consumed by utilities like refrigeration and air-conditioning in hotels and commercial buildings.
As a result, several energy saving practices have become popular with potential savings of between 20 and 40 per cent via SCADA, energy savers for air-conditioners, variable speed drives and waste heat recovery, amongst others.
